Production Manager (events and installations)
Position Title: Production manager
Location: Melbourne, St Kilda
ENESS designs and builds interactive installations; sculptural light works and responsive public art.
At ENESS you'll get to work on stellar projects at the intersection of art, technology, and the built environment.
ENESS is looking for a dynamic Production Manager to join the team to manage the preparation and manufacture our growing number of temporary installations.
The job will be fast-paced and will suit someone with experience within the events industry.
Candidate Profile
You have a genuine interest in public art and new media, and you care about how audiences experience the work.
You’re a maker, you can take design renders through build and install so the finished piece looks feels like, and works as, intended.
You’re an organised production professional with touring exhibition/event experience who understands the importance of maintaining the artist’s and studio’s creative intent throughout production and install.
You will be technically capable (low-voltage DC, simple control enclosures, fault-finding; rigging/tuning inflatables) and safety-minded (WHS/SWMS).
Naturally collaboratives with artists, designers and engineers; you mentor crew, communicate clearly on site, and document decisions.
Comfortable with frequent global travel, you’ll support installs across regions and progress to leading full deliveries.
Responsibilities of the role
systems (LED, fans, controllers, Manage new builds: partner with the Artist, design and tech teams to take concepts from Render to show-ready – translating intent into materials, BOMs, build plans and timelines (prototyping, iterating, finishing, QA, and packing for touring).
Inflatable Engineer: rig and tune inflatables; assemble and test low-voltage sensors); build looms; crimp/terminate power & data connectors; heat-shrink, label and cable-manage; wire small control enclosures.
Workshop scheduling: schedule temps/casuals, run daily stand-ups, brief tasks, and keep standards high shift-to-shift.
Manage stock: spec parts, get quotes, raise POs, and time deliveries to milestones.
Workshop ops & storage flow: keep benches/aisles clear and safe; label bins/cases and track locations; manage movements studio ↔ storage; book couriers/van runs; reconcile pick/pack sheets and delivery dockets.
Installs (national & international): start by assisting on-site and learning our processes/standards; after training, step up to manage installs end-to-end – coordinate sequencing, timelines, site access, permits and client comms with the Installation Manager.
Freight-ready packs: build cases, labels, weights/dims and packing lists; prep MSDS/export docs as needed; coordinate with forwarders.
Turnarounds & refurbishment: receive incoming exhibitions; supervise unload and check-in; unpack and condition-assess; clean/service; repair/replace worn parts and consumables; update asset registers; repack to packing matrices; stage and sign-off outgoing exhibitions with spares.
OHS: lead inductions/toolbox talks; maintain SWMS and risk assessments; keep tidy, compliant workspaces and ensure contractor compliance.
Nice-to-haves
• 3–7 years in fabrication/events/touring exhibitions or similar
• White Card (or equivalent), First Aid; EWP/forklift tickets
• Basic CAD (Rhino/SolidWorks), Microsoft Office etc
• Passport-ready; comfortable with early starts.

Location: Melbourne, St Kilda
ENESS is a pioneering art and technology studio based in Melbourne. For 25 years, the multidisciplinary team has been creating evocative, interactive temporary and permanent art experiences for public, commercial and cultural entities across the world.
The studio is alway on the look-out for competent casual staff to help us install installations.
You’ll be working as part of a larger production team under the supervision of the production manager.NESS is a pioneering art and technology studio based in Melbourne. For 25 years, the multidisciplinary team has been creating evocative, interactive temporary and permanent art experiences for public, commercial and cultural entities across the world.

Casuals primarily work in-house in St Kilda, Victoria, however regional, national and international travel is also required.
Responsibilities of the role
Assist with the production/assembly/installation of projects as and when required both onsite and offsite.
General day to day production tasks consists of:
Transporting, delivering, and collecting goods as and when required
Keeping the work area and shop floor clean and tidy and safe
Assist with packing and storing of stock and installations when not in use
General electrical assembly of electrical components, preparing and soldering wires etc
Assembling and disassembling both temporary and permanent installations to ensure the installations are well built and maintained
Preparing and packing installations in preparation for freight and installation
Travelling to regional, national, and international installations for install and bump out.
Be responsible for contributing to and adhering to company OH&S policies both on the shop floor and on site
Maintaining project documentation and records in accordance with ENESS guidelines
To work in a collaborative and cooperative manner with all team members
To report on projects and tasks as and when required
To assist with the general office operational/admin tasks as and when required
Working with our local and overseas supply chain for ordering and keeping stock of parts

Industrial Designers
We design and build interactive installations, sculptural light works and responsive public art. You'll get to work on some of the most exciting projects at the intersection of art, technology and the built environment.
We are looking for designers to support our manufacturing and fabrication team. We currently need support on an ad hoc basis and there is potential for ongoing work. Tasks involve ongoing assembly work, soldering and running errands.
Must:
- Be adept with tools
- Take direction and self-manage tasks
- Be efficient with high attention to detail

Expressions of Interest
We are always on the lookout for hotshot artists/designers — conceptual thinkers who turn bold ideas into tangible realities. You may be a trained industrial designer, architect, or be from a spatial design background.
We work at the intersection of art and technology, creating interactive installations for public spaces, museums and events. We combine multiple disciplines: sculpture, lighting, software, interaction design, product design and architecture to produce unique and compelling experiences.
Get involved from concept to fabrication and production.
Experience in fabrication ideal but not essential.
Must be competent in 3D software and Adobe suite.
